A casual encounter at the end of the 19th century at a Paris trade fair put Isidro Abelló and Carl von Linde in contact. This meeting led, in 1907, to the foundation of a family business in Barcelona. Initially named "Isidro Abelló", it began the first production line for oxygen in Spain. So the story of Abelló Linde began, with modest equipment that then produced 5m3/hour of oxygen.

During the years that followed, the company expanded its production using larger capacity machinery and, in 1916, it began geographical expansion, with Valencia the first city chosen.
The family business was set up as a Public Limited Company in 1922 and Linde's share increased from the initial 25% to 50% of the capital. But the progress of what was now Abelló Linde, S.A. was halted during the time of the Civil War on one side and the Second World War on the other. The Ministry of National Defence took control of the company, while the Allied Control Committee aside the 50% of capital belonging to Linde.

This whole delicate situation could not be completely resolved until many years later, although, during the 50s, Linde was able to recover 25% of the shares. In this decade, Abelló Linde's activities expanded once again, and, from that time on, the profile of the company was once again raised, both in terms of geographical position and its participation in other companies.
In 1983, Linde recovered its 51% share in the company. Since then, Abelló Linde, S.A., has followed a stable course.

The area of investments is one of the most outstanding for Abelló Linde. In 1996, 20 million euros were set aside for this purpose, part of which was invested in the air separation plant at Rubí. In the last few years, the company has dedicated 6 million euros a year to investments, largely aimed at boosting its geographical expansion, rationalising production processes, improving distribution logistics and optimising product quality and customer service. In 2006, sales figures rose to 106 million euros.

From its origins in 1907, Abelló Linde has always stood out for being pioneer in this industry and today, 100 years of experience made have turned it into a total benchmark. Abelló Linde is divided into four regions: Northeast, East, Central and South. In addition, we havea Call Centre service, available around the clock throughout the year.
